Seventh Annual Kickball Game: Gale-Force Winds MIA
After the Jennie Dean Park thriller of 2023, Teams Courthouse and FBA-NOVA met to settle the score on a perfect October day in Quincy Park. Judge Brinkema’s ceremonial first pitch kicked off a highly competitive game. Led by Honorable Coaches Giles and Porter, Team FBA-NOVA came out kicking with two runs in the first inning. Determined to reclaim the coveted EDVA Kickball Trophy that eluded them the year prior, Team Courthouse responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it a 2-1 game.
FBA-NOVA then broke loose with a two-run homerun. A third unanswered run brought the game to 5-1 by the top of the fifth inning. After some dispute over the bunting rules (which was resolved in a precedential decision by the Honorable Referee Alston), Team Courthouse struck back. Honorable Coaches Fitzpatrick and Vaala, guided by the wisdom of Coach Emeritus Nachmanoff, leveraged a combination of small ball and power hitting to add three straight runs for Team Courthouse, cutting FBA-NOVA’s lead to one. After Honorable Referee Alston and scorekeeper Chip Molster resolved two-out drama over certain base-running provisions in the Federal Rules of Kickball Procedure, FBA-NOVA slammed the door shut with its defensive prowess. As is tradition, both teams shook hands and headed to the barbecue line.
Special thanks to all of our Honorable Attendees for a memorable event. For all the support that made this year’s event possible, we also thank our participants and sponsors. Finally, a special thanks as well to the Young Lawyers Committee and Gul Gharbieh for organizing a great event.
